1. Pay out any outstanding or overdue accounts as soon as possible and plan to get organized and pay your bills by their due dates. Set reminders on your phones and calendars circle the dates on the bills and put them on the fridge where you will see them.

2. Have any incorrect information regarding your credit history removed or updated.

3. Apply for a secured credit card – many of these report to several credit agencies and when you have consistently repaid on time your score will increase. You will be required to leave a deposit with one of the lenders which will be returned to you at a later date.

There are many factors that affect your credit score including the amount of credit that you have been issued and the percentage of which you use, so pay out your credit accounts where possible but you should not neccessarily close the accounts.

  • Stop ignoring the situation, get a copy of your credit history and find out your credit score so you can take the necessary steps to correct any errors and improve your score.

Remember being rejected for credit will also affect your score and attempts to apply for multiple lines of credit at once are often perceived by lenders as very high risk.
  • Do a budget and resolve to stick to it – know what you can and can not afford. Put ten percent aside for savings and at least ten percent toward dany outstanding debts.

Facing up to financial issues is never a fun thing to do, but they do not go away on their own and tend to snowball if ignored.
